DO I HAVE TO ATTEND ALL SESSIONS?
You don’t have to attend all sessions, but you should try to attend most of them. Attendance will be taken at each class. We may ask you to leave the program if you are consistently absent.
WHERE SPECIFICALLY ARE THE SESSIONS?
Due to the Omicron variant, the Spring 2022 session of HSP will be held virtually over Zoom. If circumstances improve, there will be opportunities to come to Penn's campus!
WILL THERE BE WORK OUTSIDE OF CLASS?
Most work revolves around reading the assigned articles and coming to class prepared to discuss them. There will also be a collaborative final project and presentation!
HOW ARE CLASS SESSIONS RUN?
Classes will be a mix of lectures from our experienced team and group and class discussions/activities. Students are encouraged to speak up and ask questions!
WILL THERE BE GRADES?
You will not be graded, but we can provide feedback on your performance throughout the course if you would like.
DO WE NEED ANY PRIOR EXPERIENCE IN HEALTHCARE?
Not at all! We’re just looking for people who are interested in learning about healthcare!
DO I NEED TO BE INTERESTED IN HEALTHCARE AS A CAREER?
Nope! We welcome students of all backgrounds -- curiosity is all we expect!
WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO CLASS?
Since classes are virtual, please do whatever helps you best learn online, and have the assigned readings pulled up if possible.
I JUST STARTED HIGH SCHOOL -- AM I TOO YOUNG TO PARTICIPATE?
No, we welcome high school students of all grades!
WILL THERE BE TESTS/QUIZZES?
There will be no exams in this program, but please come prepared for discussions!
HOW DOES THIS DIFFER FROM WHAT I LEARN IN SCHOOL?
We teach about the healthcare system as well as many of the big players in the environment! This course does not cover biology/chemistry/physics/anatomy.
IS THERE ANYTHING I NEED TO DO TO PREPARE FOR THE FIRST CLASS?
Nope!
